ARTICHOKE LEAF EXTRACT
Artichoke Extract (Cynara scolymus L.) is obtained primarily from the leaves of the Cynara scolymus plant and is a highly valued ingredient in both phytotherapy and cosmetics, owing to its high content of antioxidants, minerals, and phenolic acids—most notably cynarin, its principal active compound. It is a perennial plant native to North Africa and the Mediterranean region, and belongs to the Asteraceae family.
Artichoke leaf extract is rich in antioxidants that help to detoxify and protect cells. It also contains flavonoids with anti-inflammatory properties that support improved circulation. Its organic acids help to balance the pH and promote the renewal of both skin and scalp. In addition, it provides essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and iron, which revitalise and strengthen.
TRADITIONAL USES
The use of artichoke was employed in Greek, Roman, Arab, and medieval European medicine to cleanse the body, improve digestion, and support liver health. It was believed that a body “clean from within” would be reflected in a better outward appearance.
For this reason, the consumption of plants such as artichoke was indirectly associated with brighter skin and stronger, healthier hair.
