DEAD SEA SALTS

The Dead Sea, located approximately 400 metres below sea level, lies between the borders of Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank, and is divided into two basins by a natural land bridge. While the oceans contain around 3.5% salt, the Dead Sea has a salinity of approximately 34%, making it the most saline body of water in the world. Furthermore, its mineral composition is significantly different from that of the oceans, as it is rich in magnesium and bromine but low in sulphates.

The Dead Sea is an extraordinary source of minerals. It contains up to eight times more minerals than any other seawater. These salts enhance the shine and softness of both hair and scalp, revitalising them due to their high concentration of active ingredients such as minerals. In addition, these salts help prevent hair loss, while their vitamin content increases hair elasticity and nourishes the scalp.

TRADITIONAL USES

The Egyptians used Dead Sea mud and salts to treat skin conditions and in the process of embalming. It is believed that Cleopatra ordered the construction of the first spas in the area in order to benefit from its healing waters. Even the Phoenicians extracted minerals from the water, which they used in the preparation of medicines and ointments.

THE DEAD SEA AND HAIR

Several of the minerals found in the Dead Sea have beneficial effects on the hair, particularly in strengthening the scalp, regulating sebum production, and stimulating hair growth.

It contains:

  • Magnesium: Stimulates hair growth by improving blood circulation in the scalp. Reduces inflammation and irritation, helping to relieve dermatitis and psoriasis
  • Calcium: Strengthens the hair fibre, preventing breakage and split ends. Supports the production of keratin, which is essential for stronger, more resilient hair
  • Potassium: Regulates scalp hydration, preventing dryness or excess oil. Improves follicle oxygenation, promoting healthier, better-nourished hair
  • Zinc: Controls sebum production, balancing oily hair and preventing scalp issues. Strengthens the hair follicle, helping to prevent hair loss
  • Sulphur: Stimulates the production of keratin, essential for hair structure. Fights dandruff and scalp infections due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties
  • Bromine: Relaxes the scalp and reduces stress-related hair loss thanks to its soothing properties. Improves microcirculation, enhancing the absorption of nutrients in the follicles
